HISTORY OF CUEBE

OUR STORY

It’s 1981. Cuebe inventor and nationally ranked billiards player, Robert Spicknall, is at home and itching to work on his stroke. Without easy access to a billiards table, he is seeking to create a quick and simple way to maintain his game. He finds a cube made out of yarn-like material that is roughly the size of a billiards ball - his son’s toy. Rob finds he’s able to work on his stroke and time by simply hitting the cube toy on his dining room table. This is the first generation of Cuebe, and it’s extremely effective. He continued to use his son’s toy to keep his game sharp for the next 4 years as he competed on the national level.

After a decades-long hiatus from the game, Rob qualified for the 2016 3-Cushion Billiards National Championship. Standing between him and the final 12-man round was the reigning national champion. Before the match, the champ asked Rob if he wanted to warm up. Rob simply responded, “I’m ready. Let’s go.” Rob won that game, advanced to the finals, and finished in the top ten that year—a performance he attributes entirely to practicing with Cuebe in his hotel room before matches. However, Rob’s momentum was cut short in 2017 when he suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), leaving him unable to play for years. By 2020, just as he was well enough to return to the table, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, locking down pool halls worldwide. Rob turned this setback into an opportunity, using the lockdown for his own physical rehabilitation and to develop the third version of Cuebe. Today, after years of meticulous refining and tweaking, Cuebe is finally ready to take on the world.

    Gen 1 Cuebe is made from Rob's son's toy, using it to stay sharp as he competed on the national level.

  • 2016Generation Two

    After decades away, Rob re-develops a new Cuebe to help re-enter the competitive world. Rob defeats national champion.

  • 2020Generation Three

    Rob once again re-develops Cuebe, this time for the masses. Everyone deserves Cuebe.

  • 2026Cuebe Launches

    After years of development and refinements, Cuebe launches. Everyone can now play anywhere, anytime.
